Warship
Warship was a collaborative zine that was started by Carlos Aguilar and Vicki De Leon. Each issue would focus on a specific person or topic, and artists and writers could submit anything they felt related to that topic. The zine layout and design was done by Carlos, each issue changing format and extras to fit the theme. Vicki and Carlos would go through submissions and choose the best work, then figure out the best way to make the zine flow.
After the art and writing were finalized it was time to print and assemble the issues by hand. We killed a couple of printers doing this, and also had to buy special staplers and paper cutters, but it was pretty fun. Having a mountain of copies of a zine is a pretty good feeling.
We would have release parties for all the issues that had bands or movies that were related to the events. We also tabled at plenty of zine fests in Texas, including: San Antonio, Austin, Houston, and Fort Worth.
